Cameroon Palm Kernels exported to your specification
BV Holdings Agro supplies Cameroon palm kernels to crushers making palm kernel oil and cake. We check moisture, oil content and FFA before every loading.

BV Holdings Agro supplies Cameroon palm kernels to crushers that produce palm kernel oil and cake. The kernels come from the oil palm belt in the Littoral, South-West, Centre and South regions. After mills press the fruit for palm oil, the hard nuts remain. Then crackers break the shell and free the kernel inside.
Kernel quality depends on drying and storage, because damp kernels lose oil quality fast. So we check moisture, dirt, shell and free fatty acid (FFA) before loading. In addition, an independent surveyor can confirm the results at your request.
Cameroon’s own crushers also buy a large share of local kernels. For this reason, export lots of Cameroon palm kernels depend on season and local demand. We confirm volume and the shipment window with each offer. If you already know your spec, you can request a quote right away.
Where Cameroon palm kernels come from
The oil palm is native to West and Central Africa, and it thrives in Cameroon’s humid coastal belt. In the Littoral, palms grow around Edéa, Dibombari and the Moungo area. Meanwhile, the South-West has large groves in Fako, Meme and Ndian. The South adds supply from the Ocean division near Kribi, and the Centre has smaller groves inland.
Supply comes from two sources. Large estates run their own mills and crack the nuts on site. Smallholders, by contrast, sell fruit to mills or press it in village units. Many village families then crack the nuts by hand and sell the kernels to traders. Both channels feed the Cameroon palm kernels that reach the export market.
Oil palms fruit all year, so kernels are available in every month. However, output rises and falls with the seasons, and the peaks vary by area. Rain and road access also affect how fast kernels reach the coast. So we plan export lots around the months with the best supply.
How palm kernels are produced
Each palm fruit has an orange flesh around a hard nut. Inside the nut sits the kernel. The steps from fruit to export kernel are listed below.
- Press: the mill presses the flesh for palm oil and leaves the nuts.
- Dry the nuts: drying shrinks the kernel away from the shell, so it cracks cleanly.
- Crack: a mechanical cracker, or a stone in the village, breaks the shell.
- Separate: a clay bath or a hydrocyclone splits the kernels from the shells.
- Dry the kernels: kernels are dried again to a low moisture level for storage.
Palm type also matters. Dura palms have a thick shell, so they give fewer kernels per bunch. Tenera palms have a thin shell and give more oil from the flesh. In practice, most lots of Cameroon palm kernels mix both types, so kernel size varies. Shell pieces left in a lot also wear down press screws, so crushers value clean separation.
Drying is the key step for quality. Kernels left damp grow mould and build FFA in the oil inside. For this reason, we check moisture at each stage, from the collection point to the export warehouse.

Typical specification of Cameroon palm kernels
These are typical values for sound, dry Cameroon palm kernels for crushing. Each offer, however, states the exact limits for that lot.
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| HS code | 1207.10 |
| Moisture | 7% max. |
| Oil content | 45% to 50% (dry basis) |
| Free fatty acid (in oil) | 5% max. |
| Dirt and shell | 5% max. |
| Broken kernels | 15% max. |
| Mouldy or black kernels | 3% max. |
| Packaging | 50 kg PP bags or bulk in lined containers |
Final specifications are confirmed in each contract and verified before loading.
Oil content is the figure that drives your yield. Moisture, meanwhile, decides how well the kernels keep at sea. Dirt and shell add weight but no oil, so a low limit gives better value. Broken kernels are normal after cracking. However, a high share can speed up FFA build-up, since broken surfaces spoil faster.
Grades and how to choose
Most buyers order one standard crushing grade. Still, a few choices shape the lot. The main options are listed below.
- Mill-cracked kernels: more even in size and often lower in shell.
- Hand-cracked kernels: collected from villages, with more variation in size.
- Tighter limits: lower shell, dirt or broken share, on request at a price.
- Bagged or bulk: bags for easy handling, bulk for lower packing cost.
So which lot fits you? First, look at your press. Expeller plants handle a normal shell share well. Solvent plants, by contrast, may want lower dirt to protect their equipment. Then set your FFA limit, because it decides the value of the oil you will make. Finally, choose bags or bulk to suit your unloading set-up.
Kernel size matters less than cleanliness. Very small pieces and dust raise the dirt figure, and they can clog screens in the plant. So a clean lot of mixed sizes often crushes better than a dusty lot of large kernels.

Quality control of Cameroon palm kernels before loading
We check every lot of Cameroon palm kernels against the contract before it leaves the warehouse. First, we draw samples from a share of the bags or from the bulk pile. Then we test those samples for the points below.
- Moisture: measured with a meter, or by oven drying in a lab.
- Oil content: a lab extracts the oil with a solvent and weighs it.
- FFA: the extracted oil is tested for free fatty acids.
- Dirt and shell: sorters pick out shell pieces, stones and dust, then weigh them.
- Broken, mouldy and black kernels: graders count them in a set sample.
Each defect has a cause. Mouldy kernels come from slow drying or damp storage. Black kernels, meanwhile, often come from overheating in the dryer or old fruit. High shell means the separation step was rushed. Finally, high FFA usually points to kernels that stayed damp for too long.
You can also nominate an inspection company such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or Cotecna. They can sample, weigh and seal the lot before loading. Aflatoxin or other lab tests can also be added on request. Our quality page explains how we sample and test each lot.
On request, we can also keep a sealed and labelled sample from each lot. If a question comes up after arrival, both sides can then test the same kernels.

Uses and industries
Palm kernel oil is a lauric oil, much like coconut oil. For this reason, Cameroon palm kernels serve food and non-food buyers alike. The FAO also tracks oil palm as a major tropical oil crop.
- Kernel crushers: expeller or solvent plants that make palm kernel oil.
- Oleochemicals: lauric oil for soap, detergents and cosmetics.
- Food fats: refined oil for sweets, creamers and margarine.
- Animal feed: the cake left after pressing.
A crusher gets two products from each tonne of kernels: oil and cake. So the value of a kernel lot depends on both markets. In addition, crushers who buy kernels can time their oil sales to suit their own plans. Some crushers also blend Cameroon palm kernels with kernels from other origins to keep a steady oil yield.
We also export the finished products, so you can compare palm kernel oil and palm kernel cake in one offer. You can also browse all our oil seeds.
Packaging, loading and container capacity for Cameroon palm kernels
We ship Cameroon palm kernels in 50 kg polypropylene bags in 20ft or 40ft containers. Bulk loading in lined containers is also possible by agreement. Bags make hand unloading easy. Bulk, by contrast, saves packing cost and suits plants with tipping or suction unloading.
A 20ft container usually carries roughly 17 to 20 tonnes, depending on bags or bulk and on kernel density. A 40ft container takes more volume, often about 25 tonnes, within road and sea weight limits. We confirm the expected load with each offer.
For bulk loading, a liner bag sits inside the container and holds the kernels. At the plant, the container is tipped or the kernels are drawn out by suction. Bagged lots, by contrast, need more labour at discharge but suit smaller warehouses.
Before loading, the bags rest in covered warehouses, off the ground on pallets. The crew also checks that each container is clean, dry and free of smells. Condensation is a real risk on long voyages, so kraft paper lining or desiccant bags can be added on request. Fumigation is applied where the destination requires it.
Loading takes place at Douala or Kribi on FOB, CFR or CIF terms. Our FOB vs CIF guide explains the difference. Our export process page also shows how an order moves from inquiry to shipment.
Export documents and buyer requirements for Cameroon palm kernels
Each shipment of Cameroon palm kernels travels with a full set of papers. The standard set is listed below.
- Commercial invoice and packing list.
- Bill of lading.
- Phytosanitary certificate from MINADER plant protection.
- Certificate of origin.
- Weight and quality certificate from the agreed inspection company.
- Fumigation certificate, where required.
- Lab reports, such as oil content or FFA, where agreed.
EU buyers face extra rules. Palm nuts and kernels are oil palm products under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Under it, the operator who places them on the EU market must file a due diligence statement. That needs the geolocation of the land where the fruit grew. It must also show no deforestation after 31 December 2020, and legal production. We do not make EUDR compliance claims. Instead, tell us your data needs in your inquiry, and we will say what we can provide for that lot.
Many buyers also ask about RSPO, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. We do not claim RSPO certification for our lots. So if your customers require RSPO-certified material, raise it at the inquiry stage. We will then tell you plainly what we can and cannot document.
Other markets set their own plant health and import rules. For this reason, tell us your destination early, so the right papers are ready before loading.
Storage and arrival care
Good storage keeps the oil inside Cameroon palm kernels sound. On arrival, keep the bags on pallets, away from walls and under a dry roof. Also, keep air moving around the stacks, since warm, still air builds moisture. Check the lot for heat or mould if it waits long before crushing. Finally, crush older stock first, because FFA rises slowly in storage. If you plan long storage, tell us at the offer stage, so we can agree a moisture limit that suits your plan.
How pricing works for Cameroon palm kernels
We do not publish fixed prices, because the market moves every day. Kernel prices follow the value of the oil and cake they produce. So when palm kernel oil or coconut oil prices rise, kernel prices tend to follow. Crushers often think in terms of a crush margin: the value of oil and cake, less the cost of crushing.
Several points shape each offer for Cameroon palm kernels:
- Oil content, moisture and FFA limits.
- Shell, dirt and broken limits.
- Bagged or bulk loading.
- Volume and the number of containers.
- Incoterm: FOB, CFR or CIF, plus freight and insurance.
- Season, local demand and the shipment window.
Price, payment terms and the shipment window are then agreed in the contract. So the offer you receive matches your spec, volume and port, rather than a list price. Freight is a big share of the landed cost, so compare offers on the same Incoterm.
Prices for Cameroon palm kernels can also rise when local crushers buy hard, for example ahead of a strong oil market. So an early inquiry gives you more choice of lots and timing.

Cameroon palm kernels FAQ
What oil content do Cameroon palm kernels have?
Typical oil content is 45% to 50% on a dry basis. The final figure depends on the lot, the palm type and how well the kernels were dried. The contract states the agreed level, and a lab confirms it before loading. An independent surveyor can also test it at your request.
Do you also sell palm kernel oil?
Yes. We also export palm kernel oil and palm kernel cake, so you can source all three from one team. Many buyers compare kernels with the finished oil and cake in one offer. That way, you can decide whether to crush at home or buy the products ready-made.
How do you control free fatty acid?
FFA rises when kernels stay damp or break. Therefore, we check moisture at collection and in the warehouse, and we keep the bags dry and off the ground. Before loading, a lab tests FFA in the extracted oil. A surveyor can also confirm both moisture and FFA for you.
How are Cameroon palm kernels packed?
We ship them in 50 kg polypropylene bags in 20ft or 40ft containers. Bulk loading in lined containers is also possible by agreement. A 20ft container usually carries roughly 17 to 20 tonnes, depending on bags or bulk. We load at Douala or Kribi.
Are your kernels RSPO certified?
We do not claim RSPO certification for our lots. Many EU and UK buyers ask about RSPO, so we prefer to be clear from the start. If your customers require RSPO-certified material, tell us in your inquiry. We will then explain plainly what we can and cannot document.
Does the EUDR cover palm kernels?
Yes. Palm nuts and kernels are oil palm products under the EUDR. The due diligence duty sits with the operator who places them on the EU market. We do not make compliance claims. However, tell us your data needs, such as plot geolocation, and we will say what we can provide.
What is the minimum order?
The minimum order is one 20ft container. We quote FOB, CFR or CIF from Douala or Kribi. Larger buyers can order several containers. In that case, we can agree a shipment schedule in the contract, subject to supply and local demand in each season.
Can I get a sample before I order?
Yes. Send an inquiry with your spec, volume and port. Then we send an offer and a sample, so your lab can test oil content, moisture and FFA. Once you are happy with the results, we move to the contract and agree the inspection method.
