Export from Cameroon to the United Kingdom cocoa, coffee, spices and kola
Trade from Cameroon to the United Kingdom runs duty-free under the UK–Cameroon EPA. We load cocoa, coffee, spices, kola and rubber at Douala or Kribi and quote FOB, CFR or CIF to Felixstowe, London Gateway and other UK ports.

Trade from Cameroon to the United Kingdom covers cocoa, coffee, spices, kola and industrial raw materials. British grinders, coffee roasters, spice packers, ethnic food wholesalers and commodity traders all buy goods that Cameroon grows. BV Holdings Agro loads these goods at Douala or Kribi and quotes FOB, CFR or CIF to the UK port you name.
This page is for importers in Great Britain. First, it lists the products UK buyers most often ask about. Next, it explains the trade deal, the sea route, the border rules and the papers your customs agent will need. Then it covers Incoterms, seasons and the steps to place an order with us.
English is one of Cameroon’s two official languages, alongside French. So contracts, specs and documents can be agreed in English from the first email. We are a B2B trading house in Yaoundé, and orders start from one 20ft container.
Products in demand from Cameroon to the United Kingdom
The table shows the lines that fit the British market best. Each product name links to its own page, with a typical specification, packing details and FAQ. The HS codes are a guide; your agent confirms the full UK commodity code.

Trade and market access: the UK–Cameroon EPA
After Brexit, the UK signed its own Economic Partnership Agreement with Cameroon in 2021. It rolls over the terms of the earlier EU deal. Under it, the UK gives immediate duty-free, quota-free access to goods exported from Cameroon. In return, Cameroon opens its own market to UK goods step by step.
For a British buyer, this is good news. Cocoa, coffee, spices and other farm goods grown in Cameroon count as “wholly obtained”. So they usually meet the rules of origin with ease. Processed lines, such as cocoa butter made from Cameroon beans, also tend to qualify.
However, you must still claim the preference at import. That needs a valid proof of origin, such as an EUR.1 movement certificate or, where allowed, an origin declaration. We supply the origin paper with every Cameroon to the United Kingdom shipment. Your customs agent then quotes the preference on the import declaration.
The UK government’s summary of the UK–Cameroon EPA sets out the deal. Duty rates and preferences are also listed in the UK Integrated Online Tariff. Still, always check the rule for your exact commodity code before you sign a contract.

Shipping route: Douala or Kribi to British ports
Cargo on the Cameroon to the United Kingdom lane leaves from Douala or Kribi. Douala is the main commercial port, on the Wouri estuary. Kribi is a deep-water port further south that can take larger ships. We pick the port with you, based on the product, its inland origin and the next sailing.
On the British side, five ports handle most container trade from West Africa:
- Felixstowe — the UK’s busiest container port, serving the Midlands and the South East.
- London Gateway — a deep-water port on the Thames, close to London’s distribution parks.
- Southampton — a major south coast container port.
- Tilbury — a Thames port with a long history in bulk and food cargo.
- Liverpool — the main west coast gateway for the North West and Scotland.
Most Cameroon to the United Kingdom cargo moves in 20ft or 40ft dry containers. Many services tranship at a European hub, such as Antwerp, Rotterdam or a Mediterranean port. For this reason, transit is typically a few weeks, and we confirm it at booking. Bagged cocoa and coffee often travel with liners or desiccant to protect against moisture.
So which port suits you? In general, choose the one nearest your plant or bonded warehouse. Haulage inside Britain is often a bigger cost than the sea leg. We quote CFR or CIF to any of these ports.
UK border rules for Cameroon to the United Kingdom imports
Great Britain now runs its own import controls under the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM). Plant goods are grouped by risk. “Regulated” plant products need a phytosanitary certificate and pre-notification on the IPAFFS system. Unregulated goods need neither. Your agent checks which group your product sits in.
For a typical Cameroon to the United Kingdom shipment, expect these papers:
- Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading.
- Certificate of origin (EUR.1 or origin declaration) to claim the EPA preference.
- Phytosanitary certificate from MINADER, Cameroon’s plant protection service, where required.
- Weight and quality certificate from the agreed inspection company.
- Fumigation certificate where the product or contract needs one.
- ONCC export quality certificate for cocoa and coffee.
- Lab reports, such as aflatoxin or pesticide residue, where agreed.
On the UK side, the importer needs a GB EORI number. The import declaration goes through HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service. In addition, some foods of non-animal origin face extra checks when they come from certain countries. Your agent will know which apply to your lot.
Food safety limits in Great Britain
Since Brexit, GB keeps its own food rules for Cameroon to the United Kingdom cargo. Pesticide residue limits sit in the GB MRL statutory register. Contaminant limits, such as aflatoxin in nuts, seeds and spices, follow the retained version of Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006. These limits are close to the EU’s, but they can differ. Therefore, tell us your limits early, and we will set the right tests in the offer.
Deforestation due diligence
The EU’s EUDR does not apply to goods cleared into Great Britain. However, the UK is preparing its own forest risk commodity rules under the Environment Act 2021. In June 2026, Defra said it would take forward due diligence rules for goods such as cocoa, soy, palm oil and rubber. The regulations are expected to go before Parliament in 2027. If your goods move on to the EU, EUDR applies to the EU importer. Our export documents and compliance page explains each paper.
Incoterms for Cameroon to the United Kingdom contracts
We quote three Incoterms on the Cameroon to the United Kingdom route. Each one splits cost and risk in its own way.
- FOB Douala or Kribi. You book the ship and insure the cargo. This suits British traders with their own freight deals.
- CFR Felixstowe, London Gateway or another UK port. We book and pay sea freight, and you insure. This suits firms with an open cargo policy.
- CIF to your UK port. We book freight and buy minimum cargo insurance. This suits new importers who want one simple price to the port.
Under all three terms, on any Cameroon to the United Kingdom contract, risk passes to you once the goods are on board in Cameroon. The difference is who arranges the freight and the cover. For example, a large grinder may prefer FOB to use its own lines. A small craft roaster may prefer CIF Felixstowe for ease. Our FOB vs CIF guide explains the choice in plain terms.

When to buy: seasons for Cameroon to the United Kingdom cargo
Most crops on the Cameroon to the United Kingdom list have set harvest windows. Buying early in a season gives you more choice of grade and lot. In addition, it leaves time for testing and papers before your own peak, such as Easter chocolate or winter ginger drinks.
| Product | Main harvest window | Tip for UK buyers |
|---|---|---|
| Cocoa beans | Main crop Sept–Feb; mid-crop May–Aug | Contract main-crop beans in early autumn |
| Arabica coffee | Oct–Jan | Ask for pre-shipment samples in December |
| Robusta coffee | Nov–Feb | Book volume as the crop peaks |
| Ginger | Dec–Mar | Buy dried ginger early in the year |
| Red kidney beans | Approx Jun–Aug and Oct–Dec | Two crops give two buying windows |
Seasons move a little with the rains each year. Our Cameroon harvest calendar gives the full picture. Then plan your Cameroon to the United Kingdom contracts so cargo lands well ahead of your peak.
Quality checks before loading
Every Cameroon to the United Kingdom lot passes five checkpoints. First, we buy in the producing region. Second, we dry and store the goods off the ground in covered warehouses. Third, we sample and test against your contract spec. Fourth, we clean, sort and pack in new export-marked bags with a lot number. Finally, inspection and any needed fumigation take place before loading.
Tests depend on the product. Cocoa gets a cut test for mould, slate and insect damage. Coffee is graded by screen size and defect count. Spices, seeds and pulses can be tested for aflatoxin against GB limits. Moisture and foreign matter are checked on every lot. In addition, cocoa and coffee export lots are subject to quality control by Cameroon’s National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC).
You may also appoint your own inspector, such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or Cotecna. The inspector samples the lot, checks weight and issues a certificate before shipment. Our quality and sourcing page covers each step.
Packing and loads for Cameroon to the United Kingdom
We pack to suit the product and your site. Cocoa beans ship in new jute bags of about 62.5 to 65 kg. Green coffee goes in new 60 kg jute bags, with hermetic liners on request. Spices and kola use 25 to 50 kg jute or PP bags, with liners where needed. Kidney beans travel in 25 or 50 kg PP bags after cleaning and sorting.
Container loads are approximate and vary with bag size and density. For example, a 20ft box holds about 12 to 12.5 tonnes of bagged cocoa beans but about 24 tonnes of kidney beans. We state the expected net weight in each offer. That way, your Cameroon to the United Kingdom plan matches your warehouse space.
Every bag carries an export mark and a lot number. So your quality team can trace each bag back to its tested lot. If your UK site needs its own codes or pallet labels, tell us before packing starts, and we will add them.
How pricing works for Cameroon to the United Kingdom offers
We do not publish prices, because commodity markets move every day. Instead, each offer is built for your lot, port and timing. These factors shape a quote:
- World markets. Cocoa and Robusta trade on ICE Futures Europe in London; Arabica trades in New York. Origin and quality add a differential.
- Grade and spec. Tighter limits on moisture, defects or aflatoxin cost more to meet.
- Season. Supply and price change between early and late crop.
- Incoterm and freight. CFR and CIF prices include sea freight, which moves with the market.
- Packing and tests. Liners, small bags and extra lab work add cost.
Payment terms also matter, and they are agreed in each contract. In short, a clear inquiry gets a faster and sharper Cameroon to the United Kingdom offer.

FAQ
Is trade from Cameroon to the United Kingdom duty-free?
In most cases, yes. Under the UK–Cameroon EPA, the UK gives duty-free, quota-free access to goods from Cameroon. However, your agent must claim the preference with a valid proof of origin, such as an EUR.1 certificate. We supply the origin paper with each lot. Always check the rule for your exact commodity code before you sign.
Which UK ports do you quote for Cameroon to the United Kingdom cargo?
We quote CFR or CIF to the main British container ports, including Felixstowe, London Gateway, Southampton, Tilbury and Liverpool. Other ports are possible on request. If you prefer FOB, you book the ship yourself from Douala or Kribi. In general, pick the port nearest your plant, because UK haulage can cost more than a change of sea route.
How long is transit from Cameroon to the United Kingdom?
Transit is typically a few weeks, and we confirm it at booking. It depends on the line, the loading port and whether the box tranships at a hub such as Antwerp or Rotterdam. We share the vessel name and estimated arrival once space is booked. As a result, you can plan customs clearance and haulage in good time.
Do I need IPAFFS pre-notification?
It depends on the product. Under the UK border model, regulated plant products need a phytosanitary certificate and pre-notification on IPAFFS. Unregulated goods need neither. Your customs agent checks the risk group for your commodity code. We then supply the MINADER phytosanitary certificate where it is required, so the papers match your filing.
Does the EUDR apply to UK imports?
No, the EUDR does not apply to goods cleared into Great Britain. However, the UK is preparing its own forest risk commodity rules for goods such as cocoa, soy, palm oil and rubber. If you sell on to EU buyers, they will need EUDR data. Please raise traceability needs at inquiry, and we will say honestly what a lot can carry.
What is the minimum order?
Orders start from one 20ft container for every product. However, the tonnage per container varies by product and packing. For example, bagged cocoa beans load at about 12 to 12.5 tonnes per 20ft, while kidney beans load at about 24 tonnes. We confirm the expected net weight in the offer, so you can plan storage and haulage.
Are your lots certified organic or Fairtrade?
No. We do not claim organic, Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance status for our lots. Instead, we show quality through a typical specification, lab results and independent inspection. If your UK retail customers need a certified chain, tell us early. That way, we can be clear about what we can and cannot provide before you commit.
Can you send samples to the UK first?
Yes, samples and offers follow an inquiry. Send the product, grade, volume, UK port and Incoterm. We will reply with a written offer and, where possible, a sample of the lot by courier. Your lab can then test it before you sign, which lowers the risk on a first order. Note that some samples may need their own import papers.
